Converting to internally regulated alt

It's time for a new alt on our `68. This inherited truck had a new 350 crate motor put in it several years ago, but they hung all the old stuff on it including the old alternator. I want to put a modern internally regulated one on it as one of the first steps in upcoming motor work. What all is involved with switching to the modern style? I seem to remember a how to on it somewhere.

And I saw this... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/techtips...lectric_3.html, but it seemed like that was still kludged up a bit. Maybe I'm missing something. I want it nice and clean and void of unnecessary stuff.
