Help!!!!carb problems

Well, my dad just bought a 76 suburban, it's got a 454, and it's all stock with just over 95,000. The only big problem was the carburator, whenever you punched it, the carb would bog down and then accelerate. The choke was also alittle finiky I spent the last two days rebiulding it and got it on the truck today it started right up and ran really good, except for the gas coming out of the filter fitting, after I tightened that it started, I let it run up to temp and I shut it off and it diesaled just a little bit. I put the air cleaner on it and tried to start it but it was flooded. I let it sit for awile, it would almost start, but not quite. I let it sit a little longer and it fired right up. I decide to go for a spin and it ran pretty damn good, no bog, but it felt like the secondaries didn't open. i went back home and shut it off and it diesaled for really long, I hit the key and it started agian(while deisaling), I hopped out, took off the air cleaner and turned it off again, it diesaled again for about 10 seconds and then two geysers of fuel came out of the carburator. What's going on here? Do I need to rebuid it again? Will the edelbrock Off my truck fit it? What about the stock carb on a 80 suburban 350? Or the stock carb off My 72 blazer? also the choke tubes broke off at manifold, happy thanksgiving.
