TH350 kick down cable

Just installed a new Edelbrock 1406. When I connected the kick down cable to the carb, there was not enough travel in the cable to allow it to go to WOT. Is this a common problem? Did I hook it up wrong? If it is not connected at all, will it affect anything other than the trans not down shifting by itself? Is it even an option to not hook it up for now and still drive it? HELP.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
