Fun with metal
Theres some pics from a recent metal shaping meet I attended.
More pics and some short videos can be found at www.fergusoncoachbuilding.com Randy does some amzing work, truely works of art!! All the panels were formed using nothing but a plastic faced hammer, a beater bag filled with sand and an english wheel, no fancy power tools what so ever. Here Phil is using an english wheel with smooth out a fender section here is a "bondo buck" of the fender we are making. Its for a 40 willys and will be made out of 6 pieces. Here is Phil using a flexible shape pattern to check the progress of the work. The shape pattern will tell us where we need to shrink and stretch the metal. Once the metal fits the pattern tightly the panel is done and taken to the buck for tweaks and fitment. Another view of the shape pattern. As you can see the pattern is loose in several spots, those spots need to be stretched out so the pattern fits tight. Here some panels are being fitted to buck for ftiment. This panel is a quarter panel for a 40 willys.
