Maybe I AM an idiot

I posted on here a day or two ago about my engine missing under load. It was suggested that I either had a bad tank of gas or the fuel filter was dirty or clogged. I ran to the local parts store and picked up new fuel filter and some other goodies and changed it when I got home. Didn't fix it. Pulled a spark plug and it was full of carbon, so back to the store I go. Get home, start changing them out, and lo and behold, get to #5 cylinder and the plug isn't even on. Finished changing plugs and took it for a drive. Everything runs great. Anyway, at least I got a new fuel filter and a set of plugs out of the deal.
