I ran cut and heated springs for 10 years in a 79 GMC. Best truck I ever had and no problems. But I wouldn't heat in the middle of the spring, Start at the bottom and just move it a little at a time untill you get the drop you want. That way the spring pretty much stays intact. For an old guy like me there were no drop spindles or springs growing up so this is how we did it with no problems. Say what you want but I have been there.
