How to replace?

I need to replace the spot-welded piece shown below.

I am certain that nobody makes a re-pop of this, so I'm going to ask: What is the easiest way to replace this? I mangled this section of my firewall being a stupidass, cut through the support structure, tried to fix it and screwed it up worse in the long run.

If nothing else, what are the differences between the 67/68 and the 69-72 trucks in this area?
