Titles and such

Well, with the discovery of lots of new (or previously unknown anyway) rust all throught the cab, I'm faced with having to replace it.

Now the truck was purchased two years ago and has a clean Oklahoma title (I'm in Texas). I would really like to keep my VIN and title, and keep the truck a '69. I'm guessing that I am not technically allowed to just remove the vin plate from the current cab, scrap the cab, and then rivet the vin plate into the "new" cab...

I know lots of you have done this, what's the process and such?
