clearencing radiator support for more room in front of a BBC?
Sitting around drinking over the weekend, and peering under my hood (as we often do with long term projects- stare at them), my dad gave me a great idea.
I have nearly 2 3/4" clearence between my LWP pulley and the back of my griffin aluminum rad. Well I have a flex-a-lite 4600 cfm electric dual fan at around 4" deep. I planned on having to go with a different fan or water pump set up - But with my AC condenser removed, there is a TON of room between the front of the radiator and the grille. The only thing that seems to make use of all that room is the hood latch, which could be easilly be reworked to take an inch or two out of (or just put hood pins on the thing... its becoming a prostreeter anyway). My plan is to bend a schedule 40 tube along the back of the rad support up over the radiator (enough back to clear the hood) for support, then cut out the top, portions of the side, and bottom of the radiator support enough to sink the rad in further towards the grill before making new brackets and secure it. Does this sound like a good idea? Any reason not to? Ill take my time and make it look good... But it seems like a good fix and I have never seen or heard of anyone doing this.
