Too Close Close To Steering Wheel!!

A WHILE BACK I PUT A TILT COLUM OUT OF A 72 GMC SUBURBAN IN MY 72. IT WORKS WELL AND IS NICE BUT..........THE STEERING WHEEL IS TOO CLOSE TO ME------ MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE CORRECT DISTANCE FROM CHEST TO TOP OF STEERING WHEEL SUPPOSE TO BE??
