Speedometer noise

My first post here, tons of great info, but I cant find what I'm looking for. I just brought home a 66. It has had a 350/350 swapped into it. The speedometer cable was too short so I put in a longer one. The speedo is really noisey now that it is hooked back up. I pulled the instrument housing out this morning, no easy task cause it has a late model column in it that wouldnt give me clearance untill I dropped it down. The seedometer is making a grinding/scraping noise when it is turned by hand.

Has anyone had success lubing the speedometer assembly itself? There is a big swapmeet saturday where I might find a replacement if needed. I'd rather spend money on a few patch pannels that I need.
