5" flip kit drop.. is notching really required?

I replaced all of the original leaves on my 68 GMC and now it sits way too high (34 1/2 inches from top of fender wheel arch to bottom). This truck evidently was ordered with the heavy duty option (extra leaves) so I was thinking that I can flip it and not have to worry about bottoming out.

Below is the post with a pic of the leaf springs now. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=291142

And a pic of the truck as it sits. The front is already lowered 2 inches.
