crossmember question...please shed some light

I am about to shorten my LWB to a SWB and I have a question about the rear crossmember where the driveshaft comes through. When I remove the 12 inches from under the cab, the crossmember will move under the cab the same length. I am good with that and was all set until I saw the article on ECE's website where they had to weld their crossmember in after shortening their frame. Just wondering if I am going to have to do that or not. I don't see why I should have to, but maybe I am missing something. FWIW, if I have to reposition it, I am swaping to a dropped version anyway. Was just curious if anyone had some insight so that I could plan ahead.

Thanks,
