Converting from 4x4 to 2WD

I have a 1972 GMC jimmy that has the wrong springs for the lift and just generally poorly put together. I want to convert this to a 2WD. I have a mid 73 to 78ish 2WD pick-up chassis has anyone ever tried this before? seems to me the front end should bolt in after being centered and of course after all 4x4 crossmembers are removed. Any help would be great! Thanks Ed.
