Starter issues...

So i built a stroker for my truck, and 2 months later i'm on my 4th starter and 2nd flexplate.. :/

the starter/flexplate clearance is good, but then i go to start it and the starter chirps and the flexplate turn backwards a bit, then i check the clearance again and it's moved, i dont know if it's the motor detonating because the timing is too far advanced, or if it just moves the starter on the compression stroke, and the compression is kicking the flexplate back...

i figured i'd look into the timing option, and when the motor is running smoothest, it's gotta be like 40 or so degrees advanced... if i take it down to ten it runs like crap... so i'm thinking it's a timing issue, but i'm getting really fed up with this, because i've got a few more go fast parts i cant play with till i fix my starter

any suggestions? i'm about to drop the 307 back in, help me! lol, if anyone actually reads all that, thanks
