Please help! Totally stuck with problem!

I have a 1970 chevy s/b and everything so far is new on this truck. I started her up the other day, let her idle and a few minutes later she just died! Was really odd and not usual. When I try to start up the truck it gets primed a little and will start up and then die when the gas burns off. For whatever reason gas doesn't keep going to to the carb. The odd part which i can't figure out is that the fuel pump is 2 months old, new fuel filter, hoses all look good, and I just put a brand new 600 CFM Edelbrock carb. I pulled the fuel hose off and put in a gas can and turned the truck over to make sure it's still pushin out gas and it is! I put it back on the carb turned the throttle over with my hand and it's spraying gas inside. For whatever reason it won't turn over and idle. Any ideas? Anything will help. Everything is brand new on this truck so i'm totally stumped.
