steering column woes

for some reason, there is a ford column in my 72 c10. i therefore cannot get my new turn signal switch to install along with my aftermarket steering wheel. i've been looking for a stock replacement but they're not cheap and easy to come by. any suggestions for what i can use to replace the ford column? what years can i use in my truck?
