Well I believe the steering came off a 67-70 frame and the spindles would have been conversion spindles so it would have the 73+ tie rods like you suggested. as they are def bigger then the 1/2" on the Mcgaughy spindles.

I am 100% positive that the 72 spindles for my 72 truck will take the OEM tie rod ends as they are a smaller end then the ones i was trying to fit.

ill just buy all new rebuilt steering stuff for my truck for the 72 and it appears to work...
