Tach Dash questions

I have a tach dash and I'm redoing it. I recently purchased a kit to make change all the gauges to white faces. They say to paint the tin inner tin white but when I put it all together the green numbers and lettering don't really show up all that well on the white. I've seen them with black numbers on ebay and such. Anybody have any idea on how they get the black numbers on the lense I haven't seen any aftermarket lenses with black either. Thanks for the help
