Need help with Eastwood Hotcoat system

Have used the powercoating system from Eastwood a few times but have a problem. Can't get the air pressure right. It is either too high and blows the powder off the piece or too low to expel any powder. I have a large shop compressor that I have been trying to reduce down with a regulator. It builds pressure and when I pull the trigger I get an initial blast that is too strong and then nothing. I have to keep pulling the trigger at short intervals to get some puffs of powder to be expelled. Takes way too long and wastes a lot of powder. Have any of you guys solved this problem? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
