Am i having a ground problem

i put some power doors with the harness from an 84 into my truck. then i came across some power doors that were shaved but had the door harness cut from an 85. so i put the drivers door on and use the harness i already had from the 84. the motor connector from the 84 didnt fit the 85 motor so i cut the connector and spliced it to my harness. the 85 window switch has 6 prongs and the 84 switch which im using has 5, is one of the prongs for ground? theres 11.7 volts to the connector and the window works when i jump it from the battery. now my passenger door still has everything from the 84 and this one only works when i run a jumper cable from the battery ground to the switch? if i confused you with my question im sorry cause i got confused trying to ask it?
