shock location help
Hey guys
I am in the process of swapping out my 3/4 ton 8 lug axle (1970 2wd LWB) with a 1/2 ton 5 lug axle from a 73-87. Both are leaf sprung rear axles, but on the 1/2 ton the left shock mount is on the back of the axle vs. both being on the front like they are on my 3/4 ton axle. The shock mounts on the 1/2 ton axle are also closer to the end of the axle tube than on the 3/4. Is there a shock relocator kit for such a swap so everything will bolt up without clearance issues? Or is it up to me to cut the mounts off the 1/2 ton axle, flip the left one to the front, and space them both out to be the same as the 3/4 ton axle. Any help or tips would be appreciated! Also, this question is probably in the wrong section, but if I want to run a 15x10 wheel on the rear, and a 15x8 on the front (it's converted to 5 lug as well) what back spacing should I be looking for with this newer gear in the older truck? the newer style truck was wider wasn't it? Thanks again! JR |
