Temp sender location

Hey guys, where do you perfer to have your temp sender?? In your block or your thermostat housing?? I currently have mine in my block and a mechanic i was talking to said i need to move it to my t-stat housing?. Thats where i used to have it, but it seemed to me i would want to know the temp inside my block. Also how much of a temp difference is there between the 2??

and sorry if the poll dosent work, ive never done one and thought i would try!!
