Aftermarket Intake Mainifold ???

I just bought a used performer intake manifold for my 350 rebuild project. Im running a quadrajet on this, and i have noticed some differences from the stocker. On the old manifold, there was a coil on the side by the carb with a little piece of rod sticking out of it. it has a little cover over it. this was hooked to the side of my carb. does it have something to do with the choke? can i change it over to the new manifold, or is there something im missing? a

Also, there is a stud sticking out of the manifold up by the front main water passage. what is this for?

Thanx in advance. sorry bout the stupid questions. im new at this.

Dale
