How Do You Know When You Need New Brake Pads

Thursday after work I helped a buddy move some plywood from his garage at his cabin to his cabin that he is rehabbing. He has a girly truck and needed my 8-foot bed to haul the 4x8 sheets.

On the way across the lake I noticed my brakes were REALLY bad. I made a note to myself to look at them this weekend when I had a block of time to pull wheels and look things over.

After I loaded up the stuff I suggested I use that weight in the back to help me move some snow that drifted in off his lake road. Again no brakes. (With a plow you don't need much brake - you can just drop the blade)

So fast forward to yesterday after work. I was on good behavior keeping myself presentable so I could take my daughter to the daddy/daughter dance at the middle school. I chose to clean up the cement part of the driveway since it was above 32 for the first time this year. Out in the middle of the driveway I found the picture below.

That is one way to know you need new brake pads.
