Valve Cover Gasket Sealer

What's the best sealer to goop up valve cover gaskets with? Which gaskets work best?

I'm using stock, stamped steel; I have got a pair that were nearly straight, and I flattened the flanges till they are so close to being straight as no matter. I have lloonngg (4") hold downs and use studs with nut/washer combinations.

TIA for the ideas.
