1963 C-20 No Start

1963 C-20, i can get it to crank over fine, i get backfire from carb and even flames from the header, but no start. It has no fuel lines, so i just pour a little fuel at a time in the carb. from ehat i have read, the plug wires are correct. If i move the dist. a little i can get a little combustion, but not enough to start.
