In California, the bears eat anything that smells like food. I've had plenty in my garbage outside of my cabin as well as a few taking food from our camp sites. Don't get me wrong, we almost always catch, prepare and eat salmon up here but that is not always the case. The bears just want to eat and they are getting use to other food since stealing from garbage is getting more and more common.
