Headers on Inline 250, Help!

First off enjoying this forum with a ton of great information. Im in the process of installing aftermarket headers on my 67 C10 (inline six 250). I'm using the stock intake manifold and found an aftermarket heat plate that attaches to the bottom. It uses water to heat the intake for reasonable fuel economy and good driving response. Has anybody had first hand experience with the heat plate? Is it necessary or can I get by without it? Any help would be greatly appreciated..
