What a week!
I took off 3 business days this week to work on the truck and go to BikeFest here in Tampa. Spend the first 2 days getting parts to do the work this weekend. Finally got the truck out of the shop late on Friday after having a new Intake, carb, transmission, valve covers and alternator bracket installed. I drove it around the block and headed to the house to take the old transmission and old tires out of the bed and threw my back out. Rested for a little while and headed down to the yard to look for bucket seats when I heard a low sounding knocking coming from the engine. The next thing I know it is getting loud real quick and the engine shuts down. Stuck on the interstate in the middle of nowhere, I let it sit for a little while and then started it back up and went home at 10 mph. I think I lost a camshaft or main bearing. Man that is the pits, more money to spend. Do any of you have any ideas how much work is going to be involved in this one? The oil looks Ok and is not low, the engine did not get hot, I started to hear a high pitch knock toward the end. It is a 402BB which was rebuilt 4000 miles ago and was balanced and blue printed. Should I just do the lower side or get a short block and go from there? I am your true back-yard mechanic.
