Are Soft seal windshield gaskets junk?
I just had a glass company try to install a new windshield in my wrecker project but it was not successful.
They actually had it all the way in but fit was terrible with big gaps by the trim and looked terrible! The guy just pushed a little from the inside corner and it "popped" right out. (and I mean pop, it even made a sound) Right from the start, with the gasket on the glass and the trim installed, it didn't look right. I gave them the trim and gasket yesterday so they could leave it on overnight too. The rubber is very soft (guy said TOO soft) and the trim wanted to pop out. It actually appeared like it was too big. ??? Facts: I am using the original 1969 trim and the gasket was for the 69/70 style so I know I had the right one. On my last truck, I used precision and it went very well they told me. (same company installed that windshield) About a week ago, I installed the rear glass myself using precision brand and it went in beautifully. They are going to order the Precision brand and try again. Just wanted to hear if anyone else had problems with Soft seal brand. ?? I didn't specifically order that brand, it's just what was shipped when I placed a parts order. (Classic parts)
