truck is just about done, steering column won't shift properly

I'm having some problems with the column shifter on my 68. It's connected to a th350 with stock linkage and I put a 73-87 power steering gear box in it and now I can't shift the column from park on the column to any other gear from inside the truck. It's binding but I can do it by hand in the engine compartment. I can't figure out if I did something when installing the new gear box or if it was a preexisting problem. It looks like it's a minor adjustment but I can't figure it out. Thanks
