I'm too scared to look!

Hi, everyone. Can somebody help me identify what I found in my oil pan?
I hope I attached the image correctly. I have a 71 gmc 454/400. Well, Im not sure if I have a 454 anymore after this tragedy...I got the oil pan off this morning and along with these two pieces there were many more smaller ones in there with it. also, after removing the intake I found a lot of metal scattered around the lifter valley...I am probably looking at a complete overhaul/rebuild yeah? Well, I got so bummed out about it that I couldn't bring myself to look up under the crank. I will tomorrow but until I do, can someone give me some advice??? Obviously, I am a novice so help is appreciated!
