Installing new door mechanism - help! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello friends, I am trying to remove the door handle mechanism (the thing that the inside door handle attaches to and connects to the actual door latch to open and close the door). See attached picture. The long lever attaches to the door latch is connected via a large headed rivet of some sort. How the heck do I remove this to install the new mechanism? Do I need to take a torch to this thing? Someone please give me some advice!
