rear end experts i have questions about the 8.5

I have an 86 short 2wd. With an 8.5 10 bolt. My question is I know the carrier and such are interchangeable between the mid 90s caprices and roadmasters and our trucks but how interchangeable is the complete rear end? I saw a caprice rear end complete for sale locally. Has disc brakes and a posi with 3.73 since its from a squad car. Are they Interchangeable enough that I could just weld spring perches on and use it?
