Gear change help!

Recently got a'69 with 350 and three speed column shift. There is currently a lot of play in the column shift and I'm considering whether to fit a three speed floor shifter or try and "repair" the column change as I really like the column change.

Any ideas on how easy it it is get the column shift nice and tight again or any thoughts on 3 spd floor shifters!!

I'm in the U.K so I can't just nip down the road and buy parts at my local auto store, these trucks are rare over here

Any help greatly appreciated.
