Brake Proportioning Valve Question

I am having a hard time finding any information about brake proportioning valve on a drum brake system. I was wondering if there are any differences in a power brake vs. manual brake when it comes to the valve. Has anyone ever converted to power drums and used the same manual valve? If so how were the brake characteristics after the switch? Thanks in advance for any replies.
