You know, I just realized that the mfgr serial number, other than the hyphen, complies with the standard VIN number for a '57 Chevy.
3A57L110831 3A = 3100 series. 57 = 1957 L = assembled in Los Angeles, CA 110831 = vehicle number 110,831 off the assembly line. http://www.reocities.com/clarknorm/chevy57.html Most of the pictures are gone but if you scroll far enough you'll find VIN info. If the voltage regulator is still installed on the firewall, you can often remove it to get a good idea of what the original paint looked like. What is stamped after the contract number DA-20-113-ORD? Edit: If you find someone with a subscription to fedlog or a cd/dvd version they might be able to help.
