Dome lamp without door jamb switches?

On a 70, just as the post title implies I was preparing to start on the rockers and cab work on one of my 70 trucks and after I removed the door and started to beat around on the outer rocker just to see where the stability is ,I noticed where the pinch weld is/was that I had three wire. One is for gas gauge. The yellow and white two together [I think] is for the dome lamp, That I did not even know I had. How or why would it have a dome lamp without door jamb switches in the door pillars? When I put it back together wouldn't I hook up some door switches and make [courtesy] lamp that work when the door open? Jim
