Is there such a thing as 2 much oil pressure?

Is it possible to have too high of oil pressure? If you oil level is at normal operating level, what other factors are there?

The p/o said he put in a high volume pump. The oil pressure gauge is almost all the way to the right at idle when it is first started. When it has run for a while is is about 2/3 ofthe way over. With acceleration or revving the engine it pegs to the right.

thanks

Ron
