pushrod slot

ok guys ive got a question. me and my dad are doing an engine swap right now and ive got a point that i have a question. were pulling the engine out of my 72 and putting an engine in out of a 84 chevy. the question is is that the pushrod slot in the 84 seems to a have a lot my side to side play in it than my 72. also the 84s rocker arms look to have sorda a slot to keep them centered on the tip of the valve. but im not putting stock rocker arms on it. im putting comp cams magnum roller tip rockers in it which worked fine on my 72 but will they work ok on the 84. it seems with all that play from side to side that they would work there way off the valve and wear something out. anybody thats got any information would be greatly apreciated. oh and by the way the engine is a small block 350.
