Oil pan drop?

I'm trying to replace the rack and pinion in my truck. I has a Porterbuild drop member and it is tight under there. I unhooked the whole thing and I'm trying to get it out of the truck and I don't have room. Do I need to drop the oil pan? Is this a normal thing to have to do? Thanks
