305 vs 350 vs LS? Value?

The original 305 in my 1983 stepside is making a noise. I'm afraid it could be terminal. Which option would be most 'worth it'? I have a local shop that will rebuild the 305 for under $600. I could order the Jeg's 350/290 for $1200. or... find a junkyard LS motor which I'd probably be in at least $2000.

If you were buying a squarebody, all other things being equal, would you pay more for a truck with one of the last two options (+$600 and +$1400) over a 305?
