Computer reset

Everybody,
I wanted to reset my computer the other day in my truck because emissions are due. I disconnected the negative cable for about an hour & reconnected it. What do I need to do to get it to start receiving all the inputs again? I came across these posts while using Google to find some info. The truck is a '99 NBS 4x4 1/2 ton Silverado with 4.3/5 speed. I took it to AutoZone to hook up their scanner, but it was reading the inputs yet.

Thanks,
Chris
