How to measure differential bearing preload ?
I'm installing a limited slip in my front axle, 84 K10 with 8.5" 10 bolt, and I measured .013" backlash.
I'm not using a differential spreader because I don't have access to one. I have not yet removed the existing carrier. I have a shim set so I can get the same .013" backlash, but I am wondering about bearing preload. How do I find out how much preload is on the bearings now, so I can arrange for the same amount when I put the new carrier in? Thanks !!
