Does Shaving Drip Rails = Leaking Windshield Seal?

I HAVE GOT ALL OF MY DRIP RAILS CUT OFF THE SIDE OF MY TRUCK FINALLY. BUT IN THE FRONT I CUT A 1" WIDE SECTION BACK TO SEE HOW MUCH GAP WAS IN THE CAB WHERE THE DRIP RAIL IS. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FILL THAT 1/4" GAP LEFT WHEN THE WHOLE RAIL IS REMOVED.

ALSO IF I GET IT COMPLETELY SMOOTH IN THE FRONT, JUST LIKE ON SAY MY 97 TAHOE, WILL THE FRONT WINDSHIELD LEAK AROUND THE SEALS??

WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO ON THIS??
