on the second tub however, I spot welded it at approximately 1.5" spacing, then let it cool, then welded right next to the previous spots in succession and let it cool, then welded next to the previous spots, and repeated until there was no areas un-welded.
I had virtually no warpage with this technique! and I added in a section in order to widen mine, so I had two seams. The second tub was a slower process, but a lot less (almost none) hammer & dolly work to do in order to make it look good!

To add to this, use a cutoff wheel aND knock the tops off the previous round of tacks. Gives it all more time to cool, and you can see your next round better. Did this on a beer can thin Mazda with no warpage.
