Do it yourself DIY dash pad for 20 bucks

My old dash pad was trashed. I didn't like dealing with the nuts that were way up in the dash either. So I was wondering around in the garage and came up with an idea. I found a 2 in diameter pvc pipe. I higher pressure type. I cut off the end and trimmed it into a "C" shape.


I trimmed it until I had a lower profile around the curve of the dash.

I then layed the lines on the full length pipe(about 62 inches or so). I then cut down the lines with a "saws all" because thats what I had. I am sure there are better tools to do that.


I then trimmed little notches in the end to fit around the window pillars.


I then took a piece of paper and made a template of the window gasket line on the window and transferred it to the pvc so I could have some sort of style line. I dont have a picture of this.

I placed the pvc up on the dash and heated the ends with a heat gun until it was pliable. When hot enough I used a rag and my hands to push on the pvc and sculpt the pvc to the part of the dash that slants down.



After it cooled off, I used headliner glue and an old fleece blanket to add some cushion to the pvc and then added some vinyl from the clearance section at the local fabric store for less than 10 bucks. Pictures will be in the next post.
