Re: When is an engine too far gone?

For some of us, there is something about seeing an old hunk of iron still doing its thing. Something about a 283, a 327, a 396, an old GMC with a Pontiac V8, whatever it may be. Hard to explain, completely impractical. But these engines, these trucks, they remind us of a different time, they take us back, help us relax, maybe remind us of when we were a kid or when America was truly great.

What does your truck mean to you? If you want to do the most practical thing, by all means, get a 350 and be done. Does it mean something to you to drive around in the country with a 283 under your hood, even though that may mean you have to pay more and wind up with less power? If that is what is right for you, then do it. There are a lot of trucks out there with 350's in them. Nothing wrong with that. But a 283, now that's something. But that's just my opinion.
