Model year and emissions equp. question

Howdy,

I am wanting to buy an old chevy or gmc pickup but don't want to worry about non-functioning or missing emissions components that will run me ragged trying to fix to satisfy the emissions inspectors. I would like to get as new as possible to get the benefit of power steering and disc brakes and the like, but still miss most or all of the smog crap.

I have seen the page here as to what years had catalytic converters, but what are the other specifics by year; i.e - EGR, smog pump, etc. I had a '72 GMC that had no cats, but DID have a smog pump----go figure.

Is there a page or thread outlining standard emissions equipment by model year, or could some kind soul shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Craig
